Several years ago the Swedish translation team asked us to consider the Angiosperm Phylogeny Group’s 2009 classification for flowering plants (APG III) and to revise the DDC as appropriate. We now propose to revise the development under 583–584 to adopt APG III as the basis for the DDC’s treatment of flowering plants. However, to avoid massive confusion, we propose to retain eudicots (dicotyledons) in 583 and monocots (monocotyledons) in 584, although the standard taxonomic order in APG III puts monocots before eudicots.
A draft outlining the specific changes involved is available on the discussion paper page of the Dewey web site. If the classification of flowering plants is of interest to you, please review the draft and share your comments with us by 31 January 2016.
