Effective December 1, 2006, there are new special developments for political parties: 324.2436 Parties of Austria and 324.2494 Parties of Switzerland. (See the December 2006 New and Changed Entries posting on the Dewey web site, with text available in PDF format and Word format.) The new provisions were developed initially by a team of experts associated with the German DDC project, including members from Austria (Margit Sandner and Josef Friedl) and Switzerland (Vera Uhlmann). Where possible, the new provisions follow the pattern in the add table under 324.24-324.29 Parties in specific countries in modern world. The new developments join the special developments already in use for political parties of United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, United States, and Australia.
The new developments make it easier to classify the many specific parties that are named in notes in the schedules. For example, the Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) is classed in 324.243604 Conservative parties, and the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) is classed in 324.2436072 Social democratic parties. The Swiss People’s Party (SVP) is classed in 324.249403 Rightist parties, and the Social Democratic Party of Switzerland is classed in 324.2494072 Social democratic parties.
