While we're on the subject of inventors, we'd like to take a minute to note the death yesterday of a giant in 20th-century librarianship and the founder of OCLC, Frederick G. Kilgour. Fred Kilgour devised the concept of shared cataloging and the database that is known today as WorldCat.
