So there we were in an editorial meeting the other week and we got talking about where to class works on real estate limited partnerships (as you do). Turns out 333.33 (Transfer or possession and of right to use), in the economics of land and energy, is the answer we were looking for. Which got me thinking: that's a lot of 3s. But is it the longest DDC number composed entirely of repetitions of a single digit? Well, clearly not ... because there's a subdivision of 333.33 called 333.333 (Sale and gift) which holds off the brave challenge of 555.55 (Earth sciences of Hamadan, Kordestan, Kermanshahan, [and] Ilam provinces, in Iran). But are there any other numbers -- established or built -- that include (rather than begin with) longer sequences of a single digit? No, honestly, we'd like to know.
